Kodansha announced this week that ippatu's Shōjōhime (Monkey Princess) manga will transition to YanMaga Web on August 2, marking a shift in where readers can follow the series going forward. The move coincides with the start of a new story arc, giving the manga a fresh chapter in its serialization.

Shōjōhime debuted in December 2025 as a simultaneous release across both Young Magazine and YanMaga Web. The series offers a new take on the Chinese classic Journey to the West, blending familiar source material with original storytelling. Kodansha has already released two collected volumes—the first in April and the second in July of this year.

This isn't ippatu's first major series. The creator previously worked on Tsugumi Project (also known as Tora Tsugumi), which ran in Weekly Young Magazine from January 2021 until its conclusion in September 2023. That series received an epilogue chapter and seven collected volumes, with Kodansha USA releasing the final English volume in September 2025. Notably, Tsugumi Project is being adapted into a television anime, giving ippatu's work an expanded presence across media formats.

The relocation of Shōjōhime to YanMaga Web reflects the manga industry's ongoing shift toward digital platforms, particularly for ongoing serialization. For readers, the move means a single digital destination for new chapters rather than splitting between magazine and web releases. The timing of the new arc suggests Kodansha sees strong potential in the series and wants to consolidate its audience on the dedicated platform.

With two volumes already published and a fresh narrative beginning, Shōjōhime is positioning itself as a solid entry in manga that reimagines classical stories for contemporary audiences. Whether the series might eventually follow Tsugumi Project into anime adaptation remains to be seen, but the investment in a new arc suggests Kodansha is committed to the long-term development of this unique take on Journey to the West.
