Hata Motohiro Crafts Anime Opening Theme

Established singer-songwriter Hata Motohiro is contributing to the upcoming anime adaptation "Kakekoi" (透明な夜に駆ける君と、目に見えない恋をした), which premieres July 6 on TOKYO MX, MBS, and AT-X. He's written an original track called "Hitohira" specifically as the series' opening theme, with a digital single release scheduled for July 7.

The song pairs delicate vocals with introspective lyrics—fitting for an anime about invisible connections between two people. Hata described his creative approach: "I layered summer fragments together to bring out fleeting light and wishes. I hope viewers enjoy this alongside the anime."

Hata, who turned 46 this year, is marking two significant milestones. He's celebrating his 20th anniversary since debuting with "Synchro" in 2006, commemorating the occasion with special events including the "Hata Motohiro 20th Anniversary GREEN MIND EXPO" two-man live series and a limited anniversary box set. His catalog includes the wildly successful "Himawari no Yakusoku" from the Stand By Me Doraemon film, which surpassed 1.3 million downloads.

The anime itself adapts a light novel by Shima Nanigashi, telling a romance between a shy university student and a visually impaired woman. A live-action drama version aired last December.

Fashion & Music Collaborations

Beyond anime, the week brought partnership announcements in fashion and music. Monaki has been selected as the model for Fashion Center Shimamura's private brands "超COOL" and "COOL" series, expanding the retailer's collaborations with entertainment personalities.

Meanwhile, artist Mononcle is releasing a new single titled "Hate" on June 17 through digital distribution. A release celebration live performance will take place at Billboard Live Tokyo, continuing a pattern of artists marking new releases with venue-specific shows.

These developments reflect the ongoing crossover between anime, music, and fashion in Japanese entertainment, with established artists like Hata leveraging their anniversaries while emerging acts build momentum through strategic partnerships and live events.
