Legendary J-pop artist Masayuki Suzuki will take on an unusual new role starting tomorrow, June 12. The singer—who was born in Tokyo's Omori ward—will provide time announcements at JR Omori Station for approximately one year as part of a special anniversary collaboration.

The partnership marks two significant milestones: JR Omori Station is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, while Suzuki is marking four decades since his solo debut in 1986. The timing couldn't be more fitting.

Throughout the day, different Suzuki classics will soundtrack the station's time announcements. From 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., commuters will hear "Chigau, Sou Janai" ("No, That's Not It"). The midday slot from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. features "Lonely Chaplin," while 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. brings "Megumi no Hito." Evening travelers from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. will hear "Yume de Aetara" ("If We Can Meet in Dreams"). Each announcement includes Suzuki's voice delivering the time.

To commemorate the occasion, life-size photo panels and a photo spot featuring Suzuki will be installed in the station's central concourse area for about a month starting tomorrow.

Suzuki, born in 1956, has had a remarkable career spanning five decades. Originally the founding member of Shanel (later Rats & Star) in 1975, he transitioned to a hugely successful solo career known for romantic ballads—earning him the title "King of Love Songs." His accolades include a Japan Record Award for Best Album in 2011 and Best Vocal Performance in 2016. Recent years have seen him expand into anime soundtracks, including the "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War" series.

This year's 40th solo anniversary is being celebrated in style. Suzuki released a duet compilation album "Martini Duet Deluxe" in March and is currently touring nationwide with his sister, fellow musician Seimi Suzuki, for their "Taste of Martini Tour 2026" celebrating both his anniversary and his milestone 70th birthday.
